3 Day Liver Detox

Detox Diet Grocery List: (this list is for 1 person)

8 oz. all-natural cranberry juice (Trader Joe's or RW Knudsen Family recommended)
ground cinnamon
ginger
nutmeg
2 & 1/2 large oranges
2 large lemons
stevia sweetner
ground flaxseed
golden flaxseed (optional)
2 cups pro-biotic enriched yogurt (any flavor) Activia is a good brand, and I recommend vanilla!!  Mmm!
4 eggs
spinach
other vegetables to your preference... I used red bell pepper, zuchinni, and a little onion
pam or other cooking spray
lemon juice (or extra lemons) - just enough to flavor your water for breakfast!
berries (I used blueberries and strawberries)
2 chicken breasts - appx. 6 oz. each
1 jar artichokes (I preferred the mariniated kind and had 1/2 can per day)
1 sm. can beets ( I ate 1/2 can per day)
lettuce (I used romaine hearts)
2 apples (any variety)
2 lean steaks (I used a lean sirlion), appx. 6 oz each
small crown of broccoli
small head of califlower

"The Cleansing Cocktail"

Recipe:
(*Note:  You have to make the juice the day before you plan to start the diet.)

8 oz. all-natural cranberry juice (Trader Joe's or RW Knudsen Family recommended)
56 oz. water (7 cups)
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
3/4 c. fresh orange juice (takes about 2 & 1/2 navel oranges)
1/4 c. lemon juice
stevia plus sweetener (to taste - recommended 5-10 packets per batch) - I used 8.
Ground flaxseed (the powder)

Directions:

Bring cranberry juice and water to a light boil. Place cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg in a tea ball and steep in the liquid for 15 minutes. Allow to cool, then stir in OJ and lemon juices. Add sweetener to taste.

THE PLAN

Day 1:

Upon waking, stir 2 Tbsp. ground flaxseed into 1 cup cocktail and drink. (keep stirring while you drink or it will thicken and all settle at the bottom) One hour later, drink 8 oz. water. Every hour for the next 12 hours, alternate drinking juice (no flax), and drinking water. Before bed, mix another 2 Tbsp. ground flax in the final cup of juice and "enjoy".

Days 2 & 3:

(unless otherwise mentioned it's pretty much "not allowed" - only water is allowed to drink - with the exception of water WITH lemon for breakfast)

Breakfast:

2 eggs
Spinach
Veggies (onions, peppers, zuchinni, etc - basically a veg. omlet without the butter/etc)
Water with lemon

*To do this I sprayed the pan with cooking spray and sauteed my veggies until soft, wilted the spinach in, and then I add the eggs in and just scramble it all together.  Yes, the spinach is important here.

Morning Snack:

1 cup (2 - 4oz. containers) pro-biotic enriched yogurt (does not have to be fat free and can be flavored) with berries (raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, etc.) and ground flax (may use flax seed for crunch and added texture --- this is where I prefer the golden flax instead of the ground... better taste and definitely better texture!!!)   This is seriously YUMMY!!  So much so my kids ASK for this for a snack if we have the stuff.... flax seed and all!  And I also recently learned that some of the organic yogurt might be higher in probiotics.  Something to think about, although since I've not tried it I wouldn't know what to recommend.

Lunch:

Salad greens with beets, and artichokes (no dressing, but the artichokes can be the marinated kind)
6 oz. of lean protein (can be lightly seasoned with salt/pepper/season salt) - i usually do ck. breast
I seasoned the chicken breast with a SMALL amount of garlic salt and fresh cracked pepper and sauteed it in a TINY (less than 1 tsp.) of olive oil.

I know, I know... ewww... BEETS!  They look and taste like dirt.  BUT when you mix them with the marinated artichokes they're not that bad.  And it's only for 2 days... you can do it!  Trust me!

Afternoon Snack:

Baked apple with cinnamon & nutmeg (cut top off apple and core - sprinkle generously with cinnamon & nutmeg and bake at 350 for 30 minutes)

Dinner:

Steamed cauliflower and broccoli
6 oz. lean protein (i do some type of lean sirlion)

Again, I seasoned the steak with the garlic salt and pepper and seared it with a TINY amound of olive oil, just like the chicken! YUM!

No cheating - no coffee/alcohol, etc. Other than the "cleansing cocktail" on day 1 - the only thing you can drink is plain ol' thirst quenching H2O. I've lost 5-6 pounds every time (I've done it 4 different times over the past 2 years ... about every 6 months)  And the best part is I KEPT IT OFF --- until my old eating habits get the best of me again!!  LOL!  The other great thing is you feel so much better too!  So much more energy!  It's amazing how the food we put in our bodies can effect the way we feel!  Enjoy and good luck!
