My goodness I've known this my whole life, but I am NOT a morning person! I still vividly remember my dad pouring ice water on me to wake me up to get ready for school. Thankfully I do not have to go to such extremes with my own children as they have inherited my husband's internal "morning clock". I'm lucky if they sleep in past 6:00 am!!! I on the other hand really struggle still to this day, and especially on days when Jarred is traveling. I have to set multiple alarms!!! LOL! Today was no exception, I fell back asleep and managed to startle myself awake at 7:04... we have to LEAVE the house no later than 7:33 to get to school on time. Yes, we only live 10 minutes from school, but out in the "country" there are no stop lights to delay traffic so therefor the main roads out here become like the Indy 500 and I feel like a 16 year old flooring the gas just to get out of the sub-division. Luckily I prepare a little for such instances and pull the kids clothes out the night before, and I have trained them at an early age to get dressed when they wake up. They were all cozily watching cartoons this morning when I came bounding in the room. Aahh! What little blessings they are! They had a quick breakfast, ate their vitamins on the way to the car, and we had another successful morning in the books (although I'll probably need new tires soon. Ha!). I really wanted to go back to bed when Chloe & I got home, but I had a MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) meeting this morning so that was not an option. This evening will be our busiest yet!! Colby has his first soccer practice with his new team (this is actually his 3rd year to play). That ends at 6:30, then I have to whisk the kids home, greet the babysitter, and rush out the door to my very first HIP HOP lesson!!! Oh yes, you read that right... HIP HOP!!! LOL! It's through our church and a lot of my friends here are doing it. It's a great group of girls and my cheeks are already sore from all the laughter that has come from just talking about it! It should be a good time, and who knows, maybe I'll become more intouch with my "inner dancing diva". Hee hee! So, look for updates on that!
In my efforts to make Mondays more enjoyable (in addition to adding the hip hop lessons!!), I'm going to release MENU PLANNING MONDAY! It has many perks, I plan out the week's menu, don't have to worry what I'm going to have to create come 5:00, and my goal is to try at least one new recipe a week. I get so bad about getting in a recipe rut... do you??? Nevertheless, here goes!! (drumrolll)
MONDAY: breakfast for dinner (sausage, french toast, eggs & fruit) This is a tradition with the kids. When Daddy is gone we have breakfast for dinner at least one time. They love it and so do I. Due to my afore mentioned sleepy mornings, we don't usually have a hot breakfast that doesn't "come from a can" or a toaster. So this is a treat for all of us!
TUESDAY: Spaghetti, garlic bread, green beans, & corn. Yet another kid favorite. I usually don't like to go to a whole lot of effort or risk when Jarred is gone. Why is that? It's not like he eats an extraordinary amount of food. It shouldn't feel less satisfying to feed your children when your husband is not home. Afterall, you are feeding their bodies to learn, grow, etc. But honestly, for me it does. Guess I need to work on that.
WEDNESDAY: Left over night/ grilled cheese, or PB & J
THURSDAY: (Daddy comes home!!) Creamed Chicken in Puffed Pastry, with roasted asparagus YUM! This is our new recipe this week! I'll let you know how it turns out. It looks and sounds fancy though!
FRIDAY: Hamburger Steak with brown gravy, sauteed onions & mushrooms, broccoli with cheese, and mashed potatoes.
I'm going to leave the weekends up to whatever. This is a good goal to start with! I hope you have a blessed day, and I'll be sure to let you know how my "moves & grooves" progress!

Love the menu planning! My sister and cousin both do it (and post it on their blogs). I've tried and tried, but after a week or so always stop doing it. I hate leaving it until the last minute, but can't commit to a whole week beforehand, either. My own problem! The chicken in puff pastry sounds good! Let me know how it turns out!
ReplyDeleteThat's funny how your dad used to wake you up...my dad used to do the same thing. He would pour the water in my ear! A pretty shocking way to wake up! Must have been a Dlugosch thing!
ReplyDeleteI love the pre-planned menu idea. I have done it for a while and though it is hard to plan out the entire week, I must say it is nice to have everything ready to go! Good luck!
