Craft Challenge for the "Craft Challenged"!

I've made no secret where my passion lies... food!  Yes, I'm a confessed foodie.  But there is one area in my life that if I could click my heels and make my dreams come true it would be to have the gift of decorating.  You know, there are those people that say, "Oh look!  A cardboard box..." and the next thing you know it looks like this super fabulous accessory piece of furniture.  Well, I say, "Oh look, a cardboard box."  and if I even attempt at "revamping" it, the next thing I know I have a collapsed pile of mess that resembles soggy shredded wheat in front of me.  Seriously, I'm CRAFT CHALLENGED!!!  I guess everyone has their gifts, right???

I say all this to preface the point that I have LOW expectations but HIGH aspirations for the challenges that I have set before myself this week/weekend - refinishing several furniture pieces.  Gasp!  Thankfully the excitement of a good deal and new furniture is out-weighing the sense of self-doubt - for the time being anyway. LOL!!  Maybe, just maybe, I can pull this off.  Well anyway, here's hoping.

I decided to start off small today and redo the desk chair I found for Madeline's room.  Since she's going to be in first grade, she thinks (and we agree) that she'll need a place to do her homework.  In the midst of the room-switching chaos a few months ago, she got Colby's old desk (but he kept the chair for his new desk).  I know, I know... I still need to post pictures of their new rooms, but alas, they are STILL in progress so patience, patience!!! LOL!

Anyway, I found this little gem at a furniture resale shop for $10!!!
It was priced $40!  CRAZY right???  Apparently it's a "period" piece.  Whatever.  But at 75% off, that's much more my "style".  It has potential right?!?  I thought so!  And who knew I was such a good negotiator... I think I must have one heck of a poker face because I was sweating bullets the whole time!  LOL!

After a quick trip to Hobby Lobby to get some supplies, it was time to get started!

Yea!  I got the seat off!  I had to use a screwdriver and everything!!

Looking so much better!  I love the apple green paint!

A preview of the finished project!
I'm going to wait for Jarred to help me use the staple gun to finish the seat.  Something about power tools just seems a little too intimidating to attempt by myself- especially on my first project!  And frankly I'm already "injured"... I have a blister on my pointer finger from pressing on the spray paint can.  The last thing I need is a staple in my hand.  Sheesh!

But, don't you love it???  I definitely think it's worth the $15 total ($10 on the chair & $5 for fabric & paint) I spent.  The fabric was not my first choice, but I found it in the clearance bin!  Whoo hoo!  Yea for another good deal!!!  So glad to finally have one "success" make over in the books!  I'm feeling a little less craft challenged which is a good thing... wait until you see the project I have for this weekend!!!  Yikes!  It's a whole room make-over - the formal dining!  I'd better go rest up and get some ice for my finger! Ha!
